How to Get More Interviews
Morning Data Scientists,
When you’re slumped on the sofa.
Refreshing your email.
Begging for a company to offer you an interview.
It’s easy to think you just need to apply to more jobs.
So you can get your ‘foot in the door’ somewhere.
My mate Dan certainly fell into that trap.
He was struggling to get interviews.
But he was leaving loads of potential jobs on the table.
A couple of weeks later he was picking up interviews like nobody’s business.
What changed?
1) Targeting a Niche
By picking a certain industry he wanted to work in (biotech).
And making sure he had projects which solved problems specific to those companies.
It showed employers he had the skills for that specific job (not just any old data science role).
2) CV edits (which actually work)
You probably think CV edits consist of tailoring it to a specific job.
Or making sure you beat the ATS system.
And whilst this can help.
People often undersell themselves - and they don’t even realise it.
3) Cover Letters
This can also be a short message to a hiring manager on LinkedIn.
But it’s another way to go above and beyond.
To show you’re actually keen for the job.
If you can’t be bothered for this step, don’t apply.
P.S.
If you want some help getting interviews.
And ultimately an exciting Data Science Job with the chance to grow and fun projects.
I’m opening up 3 spots for my mentorship program, the Confident Data Scientist, on the 5th September.
The program helps you land a high-paying Data Science job, giving you feedback through the whole process.
You can learn more about it here.
