Why Smart Data Scientists Fail Interviews

Good Morning Data Scientists!

If you’re anything like me, you probably suck at wrapping Christmas presents.

My girlfriend was the first to let me know.

You might think the present is more important.

But the wrapping is the first thing your family sees.

And we all know the power of first impressions…

The same concept applies at technical interviews.

If you start talking about the first thing you did (exploratory analysis), interviewers will fall asleep when you get to the important stuff.

Just like a present, you’ve got to wrap it up nicely.

My client James was about to make the same mistake.

He had an interview for a role at a dating app.

He’d created an unbelievable MVP of a recommendation engine.

But you couldn’t find the important information.

Lucky for him, Santa (me) pointed out the flaws and helped him wrap it up nicely.

He passed the interview and is through to the final round.

If you keep getting rejected after technical interviews — or you’re struggling to sell your work…

I’m offering a small number of free calls to diagnose what’s going wrong - and what to fix.

Let’s make 2026 the year you finally get that job

Happy new year and God bless,

Albert
