The Art of Prioritising

Good Morning Data Scientists!

Hope you’re having a good week 😃

It’s been a busy one: I’ve learnt a lot about how to prioritise different bits of work (and how that applies to your job search).

Whilst I have one main project to progress, other small tasks have also cropped up:

  • Productionising a previous model in Google Cloud Platform

  • Writing up documentation for another old model

  • Preparing a presentation for our Community Learning session

A lot of these are made up of small tasks I can complete in 30 mins - 1hr.

And some of them have deadlines too e.g., I have to make the presentation before the meeting.

Whilst it might seem logical to work on the most important task first (i.e., my main project).

I’ve found it helpful to focus on the smaller, less important tasks at the start of the day (to get them out of the way).

As long as I don’t spend too long on them (1hr max) it means I have the rest of the day and as long as I want to work on my most important task after.

So let’s apply this to your job search.

You can prioritise urgent tasks, like applying for new jobs shortly after they’re released or prepping for upcoming interviews.

Once these tasks are done, you’ll have more time to work less urgent tasks like

  • Networking

  • Projects

  • Courses

Let me know what you think.

Happy Thursday and God bless!

Albert

P.S.

Do you work in the UK/US and want help finding a higher-paying, more exciting data science/analyst job?

My mentorship program helps data professionals find and land more exciting, higher-paying (£18,200 increase on average) jobs in 2-3 months (typically).
