Post-Holiday Blues

80% of a Data Job is about the specific business problems.

But lots of aspiring data scientists I talk to don’t understand this.

You find jobs on LinkedIn then think about how you can make your resume match the job description.

It reminds me of a colleague I talked to recently.

He said the biggest challenge was adapting to the insurance specific problems and data.

Even though he’d already worked as a data analyst elsewhere.

So to give yourself the best possible chance of starting a new job.

Why not find a job where you’ve already immersed yourself in that industry?

Then instead of having to change your resume to match certain jobs.

Certain jobs will be tailor made to your resume.

That trick got my old client a remote data analyst job in just 3 months.

With a 3.5X salary increase.

But it’s not just about building a project ‘specific to the industry.

You need to research what their burning problems are, and then solve those.

And ensure the project is actually usable, not just gathering dust on GitHub.

P.S. Sorry for the shorter email

I’ve just got back from a weekend away with my Church

I think I’m suffering from the ‘post-holiday blues’

Anyway, have you guys got any fun weekend plans?
