Planning a Project

Morning Data Scientists

As you know, projects are key to getting a Data Science Job.

Everybody on LinkedIn is always saying they don’t know what projects to build.

The thing is, you’re missing a key step if you only ask about what projects to build.

I’ve been starting some new projects at work.

These are the steps I’ve gone through before starting a project:

  • Determine the value of the project

  • Talk to stakeholders to see if they want it

  • Explore data options

ie you need to PLAN projects before you build them.

So you know you’re working on a burning problem.

That’s how you get Execs to want to attend your project updates.

Instead of asking what the point of the project is.

And planning a portfolio project is similar:

  • Determine the companies you want to work for

  • Research what their burning problems are

  • Explore data Options

You complain about how hard it is to find good data.

But that’s because you haven’t been through the first two steps.

Then it’s easy finding good data, like my client Lekan has here:

So don’t build projects.

Plan them.

And that’s how you’ll end up with a Tailored Project.

P.S.

What projects are you thinking about working on?

Let me know and I’ll reply with some quick advice.
