The One CV Mistake You Must Avoid

Morning,

My client Dan Has just breezed through 3 rounds of interviews.

How did he do it?

Before we get to that, let me know if this sounds familiar.

You open your phone to easy-apply for yet another job on LinkedIn.

You’re too scared to think about how many you’ve already applied to.

Frustrated about your lack of progress, you chuck your phone away and slump into the sofa.

‘But I thought applying for loads of jobs would make it easier’ you whisper to yourself.

And whilst the laws of probability imply that, you’re missing one thing.

You’re applying for too many jobs which you don’t actually like.

That’s what I thought when I talked to Sarah, who’d applied for jobs in healthcare, insurance, retail.

Firstly, those jobs would be so different - would you actually enjoy all of those jobs?

When I look at Data Science resumes, everyone does a good job of showing their projects.

But they’re are missing one thing.

They don’t show how the person is actually keen to do the job.

And when you’re applying for hundreds of different jobs like Sarah, it’s impossible to come across as keen for all of them.

And you don’t even need to be a data science wizard to show your enthusiasm.

What made Dan stand out was he had experience in the industry (even if it wasn’t a data role).

So don’t apply for hundreds of jobs.

Spend time showing you’re keen.

That you’d be willing to run through brick walls for the business.

Then getting call-backs is taking candy from a baby.

By the way, if you want to start getting interviews like Dan and get your First Data Science Job.

I’m opening the doors to my mentorship program The Confident Data Scientist on the 1st August.

But people on the waitlist will get priority access.

So reply ‘waitlist’ if you’re keen.
