Do you need a Data Science Degree?
Hey man,
Data Science rocks.
So it’s a shame when you immediately rule yourself out from the field.
For example, you think you can’t get a data job because you don’t have a degree.
I’ve had loads of people ask me if they need a data science degree.
The truth?
It can definitely help.
I did a Data Science Degree.
But in my interviews I didn’t talk about it.
I focused on projects from my entry level internships, before I did the degree.
But I’ve also had clients land data jobs without degrees.
For example, they’ve found ways to analyse data in their previous non-data roles at the company.
So when it came to hiring a new data person, who do you think management looked to:
1) The guy who’s best project is on the Boston Housing Dataset
2) The guy who has data skills and knows the company inside out
It ain’t rocket science.
And that’s what Tailored Projects is all about.
Whilst you won’t have access to company-data.
You can plan projects which replicate your dream company’s work as much as possible.
And it’s not just about finding an industry-specific dataset on Kaggle.
You actually need to research what’s important these companies.
Then
1) Find Good Data
2) Execute it to perfection
3) Productionise it (let people use it)
So don’t let your lack of degree stop you getting into Data.
Build Tailored Projects.
That’s how you blow the competition out of the water.
P.S.
The doors to my Confident Data Scientist Coaching Program are now open!
Previous clients have found their dream data science or analyst job in less than 3 months.
I have space for one more person.
You have until the 11th August to sign up.
After that, I don’t know when I’ll be able to help you.
