How to Stand Out on LinkedIn

Good Morning Data Scientists!

Are you using LinkedIn to network for your job search?

One of my London-based clients just received his first ever inbound message from a recruiter.

Here’s how we made his profile stand out so recruiters reach out to him (instead of them airing your messages)

1. Concise Headline

This needs to be short and easy to read, whilst including as much credibility as possible.

If possible, quantify how much experience you have.

Mention your main skills/software you can use e.g., ML, Python, SQL

My client’s headline:

Data Scientist | 2.5 Years Helping Orgs Make Data-Driven Decisions | Python, SQL, AWS | Featured in Data Science Weekly

2. Personalised About Section

Most people use their about section to regurgitate their CV highlights (which is why they don’t stand out).

You forget it’s another human viewing your profile, so you want to connect to them on a personal level - so add some of your personality to it!

Explain your story of how you got to your current job (and what you’re looking for next).

3. Insta-Worthy Profile Picture

You already know first-impressions are important, and your profile picture is the main way to do this.

I could give a few bullet points about what makes a top photo.

But at the end of the day, you intrinsically know if you’re profile picture is ‘top-notch’ or if you need to retake it.

If you have any doubt about your profile picture being good enough, take a new one.

That’s a wrap on how to get recruiters reaching out to you on LinkedIn.

If you want more help finding a London-based Data Science Job, I have one spot remaining on my mentorship program ‘The Confident Data Scientist’ (only for those serious about progressing their career).
