How to Network on LinkedIn

Good Morning Data Scientists,

Are you struggling to network on LinkedIn?

Connection requests getting ignored?

Messages getting ghosted?

Here’s why.

You need to make people want to reply.

I’ve just been reviewing some of my client’s attempts at networking.

The main problem was that his messages were hard to answer.

If you ask something like

• How did you find your current job?

• Do you have any advice for my job search?

• What’s your company working on?

These all require a bit of thought.

Hence your project is likely to fall into the ether.

So here’s what we’re doing to instead to get his connection requests accepted:

• Asking easy questions (e.g. ‘what are YOU currently working on’)

• Make it feel like you’re already friends with the recipient (mention something you have in common)

• Make the recipient feel good (offer a genuine compliment)

He sent his updated messages last night.
