How To Get A Data Job in 6 weeks

Interested in finding a new UK/US Data role?

My client just got offered a data analyst role at Vodafone (a major telecoms UK company), only 6 weeks after we started working together.

Here’s the steps we took to land him his dream job:

1. Positioning

Most people easy-apply to every job on LinkedIn, even if they’re not excited by them.

My client answered a few simple questions to discover what type of companies and projects excited him the most.

This meant he could focus on applying for roles he was ACTUALLY excited about.

The benefit of this is you can make fewer, higher-quality applications (so you’re more likely to get an interview).

And the interviews you do get are easier - as you’re actually excited about the role!

2. CV

This only took a couple of days of back-and-forth to sort out.

Even if you’ve spent time having people review your CV, there’s normally a few easy things to improve like

• Removing irrelevant experience

• Explaining your projects better

• Making it easier to read

3. LinkedIn

Chances are you’re employer will look you up here, so you best make sure you look competent.

That includes

• A strong about section (which isn’t just a rewritten CV)

• An eye-grabbing headline

• A high-quality profile picture

4. Applications

Applying for fewer roles means we can put more time into our existing applications by

• Researching the company

• Writing a strong cover letter

• Reaching out to relevant employees

5. Interview Prep

Typically, most data scientists only focus on work they’ve done previously when preparing for interviews.

And whilst the STAR technique is good to talk about your experience, applicants often miss these important parts of interview prep

• A strong answer to ‘tell us about yourself’

• Showing their motivation for the role

• Looking forward to what they’d do in the role

With my client, we made sure his STAR answers were up to scratch and covered of all these other points.

So that’s how my client landed his dream job!
