How to get more callbacks

Morning guys,

I hope you don’t have the ‘Sunday scaries’.  It’s when you feel anxious on Sunday  (no prizes for guessing that part lol) because you don’t want to return to work.

This happens when your values don’t align with the services your company offers.

I never looked forward to my old Tax Job.

I’d log off as early as possible to smash the gym and write my Fantasy Football book.

I’d even play the mouse wiggle game - I’d be doing anything but work and wiggle my mouse every ten minutes so ‘Microsoft Teams’ thought I was still working.

To be honest, it was my fault - I never researched the company.

I thought any Data Science Job would be fun, so I accepted the only offer I got.

Fast forward to June 2024, I’m in my Dream Data Science Job.

Me and my colleagues have just finished a sexy project.

It would make Milan fashion week look like a plain Jane.

I can’t say more about it, but you’d be jealous.

During the project, my colleague Victoria produced great work.

Every suggestion she made hit the mark.

She presented work well.

And it was easy discussing approaches with her.

Wednesday night we stayed late to finish the project.

I thanked her for all the effort she’d put in – it’d be rude not to.

What she said struck me.

‘It’s fun’.

Having fun is easy when you care about the work.

This is what you’re ignoring in your Data Science job search.

It’s easy to think ‘I just want to get my foot in the door’ or ‘I’d enjoy any Data Science Job’.

But then you’ll be like me in my Tax Job.

If you want to end up like Victoria - enjoying yourself, doing good work, happy to work late.

Then you need a Tailored approach to finding your Data Science Job.

Instead of easy applying to every job under the sun you have to ACTUALLY research what companies you’re interested in.

Instead of maximising the number of job applications you maximise the quality of Job applications.

Instead of working on a generic movie analysis project you have to work on a Tailored Project - to get a taste of what the job would be like.

That’s how you can end up like Victoria.

Otherwise you’ll be spend every hour of your day wandering why you don’t get callbacks.

You’ll obsess over minute details like what words to put in your resume to impress ATS.

You’ll stay stuck in your current job, where the work drains the life from you.

So to find a Data Science Job which is actually fun, take a Tailored approach - find a job you care about.
