3 Tips From My 3 Job Hunts
Plus A Present At The End
Morning all,
A rapid-fire email today as I try and spam the sunbathing.
Let’s get into it.
1. Context
I’d had a previous interview I thought I’d smashed but got the dreaded ‘unfortunately’ email afterwards.
Luckily for me they gave me some feedback and explained I could have given some more context to my Tailored Project - such as explaining the problem I solved and why it was important.
This was easy enough to correct in my next interview, where I was offered the job.
You always need to remember that other people know a lot less about your Tailored Project than you.
So dumb it down when you’re explaining what problem the Tailored Project is solving.
2. Experience
This isn’t Data Science Experience. This is industry experience.
The first Data Science Job I had was in the Government Energy department.
I thought the work we did was purposeful and I knew how the interviews for the government worked, so I applied for another Data Science Job there.
I knew exactly what type of questions they’d ask me and how I should answer them.
I actually had another interview for a similar data role in the government which I also passed - as I was so use to the process.
So even if you don’t have Data Science experience, I’m sure you have experience working in another industry.
Exploit this to maximise your chances of finding a Data Science job.
For example, one of my clients has just gotten his first interview - he did it by applying to a data role in biotech, the industry he worked in for 10 years before transitioning into Data.
3. Case Studies
If you can smash any case studies employers ask you to do, you’re making life a whole bunch easier.
That’s because it’s the exact type of task you’d do in the job.
And that’s what interviews are all about - showing you’re the best person for the job, not just regurgitating things you’ve done in the past.
After my interview where we discussed the case study, I knew I’d nailed it. It was the most fun I’ve had in an interview.
One week later and a couple more casual chats with the managers and I got offered the job!
P.S I feel I’ve talked a lot about my experiences but I’d love to get to know you more.
So I’ve made a short survey to learn about your Data Science Journey and to see how I can help you land a Data Science job/achieve your Data Science related goals
I’d love it if you could fill it out! It’ll take 2 minutes.
God Bless,
Albert
