2 Interviews From 3 Applications

Dear London Data Scientists,

Struggling to get interviews in your job search?

That’s the problem Theo had when he reached out to me one month ago.

He has 2 years of experience, but had applied for 17 roles without getting any interviews.

One month later?

He’s applied for 3 roles and had 2 interviews.

Plus he’s progressed to the technical round in one of them (waiting to hear back on the other).

Here’s how he did it.

1. Narrow your focus

Instead of applying to any Data Science Job which interests you, I got Theo to consider his motivations so he could focus his attention on roles which really excite him.

This let him make a smaller number of higher-quality applications.

2. Stand out on LinkedIn (With a Human Touch)

Most people regurgitate their CV on LinkedIn.

We fixed Theo’s profile to showcase his skills AND his personality.

This made it easier for recruiters and employers to see what he can offer and what he’d be like to work with.

3. High - Quality Applications

Although Theo was writing cover letters for his applications, they weren’t working.

We fixed these and did some LinkedIn outreach for his applications.

This captured the attention of the hiring manager and other relevant team members.

So to get more interviews, remember to:

  1. Narrow your focus

  2. Stand out on LinkedIn

  3. Make high-quality application
